Healing Trauma

Did you know that every time you talk about an unhealed wound or trauma, you re-activate it in your emotional, spiritual and physical bodies? As you speak, or even think, about an old issue, you experience it as if it is happening right now. Since your subconscious mind does not know the difference between current experience and past memory, for all intents and purposes, the trauma or negative experience is happening now.
When you re-activate old painful memories, your thoughts, words and emotions create a negative karmic energy that you unknowingly project out into your future. This karmic energy manifests in more painful experiences, similar to the original issue. In other words, when issues come up without resolution, a karmic loop or pattern develops.
Each time this karmic pattern manifests in real life situations, you re-experience the original wound and the current hurt simultaneously. When this occurs, it is a powerful opportunity to heal the past wound by healing the current one.
Unfortunately, when an issue is re-activated, instead of using it as a healing opportunity, many of us react by pushing the wounds down with numbing substances like food, drugs, internet, Facebook, TV, and a long list of other distractions.
Unhealed issues get stored in the body,  until we release them. The body obliges as a storehouse for emotional wounds but it does take its toll, especially if issues are accumulated for long periods of time. Storing wounds in the body eventually weakens the body and invites illness and disease, as well as causing depression, fatigue, stress and weight gain. The good news is that the body is ready to release issues, the moment you are.
When an unhealed issue is re-activated, don’t just push it down – take the time to finally heal it. This means creating intentional space to feel your emotions and allow the issue to process through to Healing. Once you allow yourself to fully experience these emotions for the first time, without resistance, you will innately know what path to healing is right for you.
Wounds are meant to be healed. We are not meant to spend our lives carrying around past issues and hurts. Unhealed issues weigh us down, keep us asleep and prevent us from consciously creating. It is only our personal issues that stop us from experiencing our greatest potential. Holding onto issues keeps us limited and unable to reach that mountain top.
Because of the shifts going on in the collective consciousness and the higher energy now available on this planet, it has never been easier to release old issues. In fact, issues are now coming to the surface to be resolved. This is why so many of us are experiencing familiar challenges. Wounds want to be healed and issues want to be released, but you have the last say. None of this can happen until you are ready and willing.
You are meant to be free and clear of emotional burdens. You are meant to live a limitless life with an abundance of love and creativity. You are meant to stand on the mountain top with arms stretched wide – willing to receive your grandest dreams. The Universe is listening...Author: Nanice Ellis

You can release emotional wounds and trauma's using Time Line Therapy, receive 25% off your first session with Lynn when you mention this article.

How Supplements Can Help Protect Against the Toxic Side Effects of Chemotherapy

9/29/2015

I would like to explore some ways in which specific supplements can help reduce the terrible side effects of chemotherapy.  One of the main reasons for these ill side effects is the generation of free radicals by many commonly used chemo drugs.  This increased free radical burden comes at a cost, which accounts for most of the toxicities experienced by patients.

Lets review some supplements:
CoQ10 - is an antioxidant found in foods in small amounts, and which the body produces on its own. Found in all cells but in highest amount in heart, liver, muscles, immune system cells.  Gives the cell energy and improves oxygen uptake on a cellular level, Cancer doesn't thrive in a well oxygenated body.  Prevents shrinking of the thymus gland and decreased or eliminated cancer tumours in a small group of patients when 390 mg. was used daily along with antioxidants and essential fatty acids.

Maitake (Grifolia Frondosa)• Compounds in Maitake mushrooms called Beta-glucans are able to shrink tumours and have a beneficial effect on the immune system by increasing macrophage activity and the healing of breast and prostate cancer
• It also inhibits the formation of metastases
• Maitake lessens the side effects of chemotherapy, helping to decrease nausea, keep the white blood cells actively working, and in reducing pain

MGN-3

• MGN-3 is an extract of the outer shell of rice bran combined with extracts from the following three mushrooms: Shiitake, Kawaratake and Suehirotake. This combination possesses anti-cancer properties that improves the ability of the T-killer cells to destroy cancer cells by increasing the number of explosive granules in the T-killer cells
• MGN-3 increases the body’s levels of interferon and tumour necrosis factors, both of which help destroy cancer cells
• In one study involving 24 cancer patients who took the product for two months, the T-killers cells became 27 times more effective at killing cancer cells after the two months than they had been prior to treatment
• Used with chemotherapy, MGN-3 lessens toxic side effects of the chemo and fortifies the white blood cells

Indole-3-Carbinol (a plant compound from cruciferous vegetables)

• Indole-3-carbinol converts the stronger form of extrogen (estradiol) into a weaker form (2-hydroxy-estrone)
• When I-3-C was given to 25 women for two months the levels of C16-hydroxyestrone (bad estrogen) dropped
• I-3-C inhibits human breast cancer cells from growing by as much as 90%
• I-3-C interrupts the cell cycle in cancer cells. In one study I-3-C inhibited the growth of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer cells by 90% compared to tamoxifen’s 60% by stopping the cell cycle
• In estrogen receptor-negative cells I-3-C stopped the synthesis of DNA for new cells by about 50% whereas tamoxifen had no significant effect
• Chemically – induced breast cancers have been inhibited by both I-3-C and DIM in animals studies, with I-3-C being slightly more effective

Grape Seed Extract

• Fifty times more effective than vitamin E and twenty times stronger than vitamin C in neutralizing free radicals
• Help to slow down the rate of DNA mutation when cells are exposed to carcinogens
• Maintains the integrity of the arterial walls and circulation
• Slows down the aging process
• Not found in foods

Milk Thistle is best known for its protective effects of chemical toxicity.  It has a restorative influence that can speed up regeneration of new liver cells.

Theanine - This amino acid found also in green tea appears to reduce the toxic side effects of various chemotherapy drugs.  Simply drinking green tea is not enough unfortunately, we need a concentrated amount that is found in green tea extracts.

NAC (N-AcetyCysteine)

• Helps the liver to detox for melatonin to work effectively
• Makes toxic chemicals and carcinogens less harmful
• Fewer side effects from chemotherapy and radiation when taken but may make the chemo less effective
Found in, black beans, adzuki beans, chick peas, lentils, split peas, sried spirulina, nori, kelp, almonds, sunflower seeds, cottage cheese, fish

Radical Remission~surviving cancer against all odds

9/28/2015

Picture
Radical Remission is a wonderful book that talks about 9 elements that radical remission cancer survivors have used to heal their bodies.  Not one thing alone works but using several elements together can help the body to heal from illness and disease.  As a cancer coach, nutritionist, & Time Line therapist, hypnotherapist, I teach clients to combine these very same elements together to effect change.

The number one thing that patients do is to radically change their diet!  Increasing vegetables, organic fruit, whole grains, eating whole foods, juicing, and eliminating dairy, wheat, gluten, meat, sugar, and processed foods. Giving the body the nutrients it needs to fight disease and increase the immune system and natural killer cells.

Taking control of your own health and the ideal that in order for healing to occur, you must be willing to make changes even if those changes are time consuming and emotionally difficult.  Instead of relying in quick fix pills, you may need to make serious changes in your life in order to regain your health.  You may need to leave your stressful job or marriage in order to heal, whatever it is, evaluate, reflect and listen to your inner voice to do what is right for you.

Following your intuition.  The body knows what it needs to heal and it can often let you know why you got sick in the first place.  This belief goes against western medicine, which usually removes patients from the  planning process while the doctors determine a course of treatment after diagnosis.  IF the mind is allowed to quiet down, it will know what it needs to do in order to be well again.  Cancer is only a messenger that says something has gone wrong or out of alignment.  Find out what that something is, that root cause and correct it to heal the body.

Using Herbs and Supplements:  The difference between chemo and vitamins is that chemo kills cancer cells & the immune system while most supplements are designed to  strengthen the immune system so that it can remove cancer cells.  These 2 treatment styles stem from 2 different belief systems.  Vitamins and Herbs alone  will not do the trick however, combining them with all the other elements to heal the body may mean the difference between life and death just as diet alone may not work either.

Releasing suppressed emotions- suppressed emotions are any emotions you are hanging onto from your past that are negative, positive, conscious or unconscious.  We hold onto negative one's such as anger, fear, sadness, and hurt.  Suppressed emotions may be conscious or unconscious, meaning you may not be able to remember them fully.  It could be from traumatic memories or events in the past, accidents, abuse are often blocked from one's conscious memory.  You can release these negative emotions easily with Time Line Therapy, hypnotherapy and using other healing modalities such as Reiki, yoga and meditation.

Increase positive emotions:  Happiness is a habit and a state that you can access at any time.  We all have happy memories that we can access and we an do it daily to make it a habit.  For cancer survivors that were interviewed, they had to force themselves to think of past happy events and memories in the beginning or they chose to watch funny shows and movies to increase their happiness.  They discovered that by doing this daily, it became a habit and the feeling of happiness came quickly the more they practiced it.

Embrace social support:  We are social creatures by nature and humans need each other to survive.  Researchers have discovered that loved one's help our bodies in a sophisticated way.  When we are surrounded by them, even our pets the feeling of being loved releases a flood of hormones into the bloodstream which makes us feel better emotionally but also strengthens our immune system significantly.

Deepening your spiritual connection:  Having a connection to a deeper or higher energy which some people call God and others call it the soul or energy or chi.  One may pray to find this connection others may have a deep yoga practice or meditation practice that they follow.  Whatever it is for you, is right for you, practice is daily, connect to your inner spirit and faith.

Having strong reasons for living:  Survivors that were interviewed said that they wanted to live and for many reasons.  Having confidence to your core that you want to keep living, to get excited about life was a recurring factor for cancer patients of radical remissions.  It is a recurring fact in this book that the mind leads the body, not the other way around.  Its a proven fact that when you have strong enough thought or emotion, powerful hormones and released instantly into the bloodstream and have either beneficial or detrimental effect on your immune system depending on the nature of your thoughts and emotions.

While each chapter in the book contains healing stories, its important to remember that it is never just one factor that helped people get well but a multitude of factors.  Empowerment is the key, cancer is a devastating disease and people often feel powerless since it can sneak up without any warming.  Finding your power will require some effort on your part, you can do it.

You probably know this feeling of being trapped in negative emotions or limiting beliefs. You may be blocked by anxiety, insecurity or depression. You may believe that you are not good enough or not worthy to have things you want the most in life.  Or you may you have felt that the lack of energy or chronic physical issues such as chronic pain, allergies or auto-immune diseases, prevent you from reaching your goals.  You have tried “everything” to change, improve and heal, but somehow there is still something holding you back from reaching your goals. May be you have even started to give up on your dreams to have the life you desire.

Imagine how good it would feel to:
  • Discover and address the deeper root causes of your mental, emotional and physical blocks and limitations
  • Free yourself from subconsciously stored negative emotions and limiting beliefs
  • Erase self-sabotaging patterns and create congruency on all levels
  • Re-program your mind and cellular memory to greater peace, confidence and self-worth
  • Access your true potential to heal, change and thrive
  • Have the skills and tools to be in charge of your thoughts, emotions and actions – and to continuously grow and create more balance, success and well-being in your life.

This can all be achieved using Time Line Therapy....It is used to release negative emotions, such as anger, sadness, fear, guilt, shame and limiting beliefs (for example I am not good enough, I don not deserve) through hypnotic regression and subconscious learning.

Most clients require only 6-8 sessions, which can be once a week OR spread over a time period of 2-3 months to breakthrough their blocks and reach their goals.  Each session is 1.5 - 2 hours long, so that there sufficient time to go deep and create powerful shifts and momentum. During the sessions you will work consciously with your subconscious mind, activate your mind-body-spirit connection and spend some time in a very pleasant, relaxed light trance state. By using specific mind-activating modalities and techniques you are able to resolve deep-seated emotions and limiting beliefs and gain a new perspective on yourself and your life. In the process you will learn and acquire effective tools and strategies, which allow you to further solidify the changes and quickly implement your growth in your daily life.

Since over a quarter of a million of women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer this year, this dreaded C disease is affecting many children, spouses and communities.  Fortunately, there is change in the wind with relatively new sciences called Epigenetics and Nutrigenomics that study the effect of specific nutrient and plant chemicals and how they affect our gene expression. Scientists have discovered that specific phytochemicals can actually turn on healthy detoxification genes and turn off the inflammatory genes that often lead to disease.

Here is a sample list of the power behind nature’s “farmacy” and the role it plays in healing and preventing not just Breast Cancer but all types of cancer.
  1. Prevent DNA damage
  2. Control regulatory genes
  3. Turn off Inflammation that promotes cancer
  4. Block excessive cell division
  5. Reverse malignant cells to healthy cells
  6. Trigger cancer cell death or apoptosis
  7. Block abnormal growth factors
  8. Cut off blood supply to tumors
  9. Prevent spread or metastasis of cancer

Here is a partial list of what Dr. V refer to as “Tumor Terminators”.

These are specific nutrients that have a powerful healing effect on the body.  If you go to www.pubmed.org which is the United States National Library of Medicine, you can get lost in the amount of evidence – based research about the nutrients that offer hope for prevention and healing cancer naturally.
  Blood root
  Melatonin
  Selenium
  Sulforaphane from Broccoli sprouts
  Vitamin D
  Iodine
  Resveratrol
  Curcumin
Flax seed oil and fish oils
  Soy isoflavones
  Green tea polyphenols
  I3C from cruciferous vegetables

Essential Oils Have Been Used for Thousands of Years!  Here's Why You Need to Know How to Use Essential Oils Today!

7/14/2015

Essential oils are rapidly becoming popular today, but they’ve actually been used for thousands of years. In fact, if you read the Bible, you'll find over 300 references to essential oils.

Essential oils were used to inaugurate kings and queens
When you read in the Bible "anoint your head with oil," it was actually referring to essential oils. Historically, this was a very specific essential oil blend of cinnamon oil, cassia, calamus, myrrh essential oil along with olive oil.
Frankincense and myrrh essential oils were brought as gifts to the infant Jesus
In fact, frankincense and myrrh were worth as much as gold was during those days. And the reason is they were the most effective forms of plant-based medicine. Frankincense, for instance, was used during that time to reduce bruising. It's also great with the nerve system, so they would have rubbed it on a child after birth to support their growth and development and to protect their immune system. Myrrh essential oil is a natural antiseptic. So, they would have rubbed it around the umbilical cord to keep that area from getting infected after birth.

Essential oils were also used in Chinese and Egyptian medicine

In fact, they found several hundred liters of partly empty alabaster jars of essential oils in King Tut's tomb. It's actually been documented that Cleopatra opened the first beauty spa and she used essential oils in her treatments.

Hipprocrates, the father of modern medicine, famous for saying, "Let food be thy medicine," prescribed essential oils for healing over 2,000 years ago. So, why were essential oils used so widely throughout the Bible and throughout Egyptian and Chinese medicine?  Well, one reason essential oils were used so much throughout history is because they are easy to extract from plants... and your body naturally knows how to work with plants and oil-based compounds.

Here's Why You Need to Know How to Use Essential Oils Today
If you want to make-over your medicine cabinet, there’s no better way than essential oils.
Did you know essential oils can help you:
1. Replace dangerous drugs
2. Kill tumors and cancer
3. Reduce inflammation
4. Balance hormones
5. Clear up acne
6. Get rid of age spots & scarring
7. Support weight loss
8. Detoxify your body
9. Clean your home
10. Improve allergies
11. Improve spiritual awareness
12. And much, much more
Essential Oils Are the Most Effective Form of Plant-Based Medicine
Most medicines today were originally inspired from a plant, then synthetically recreated–which can be toxic to the body. Essential oils, on the other hand, are natural and gentle on the body. Your body naturally knows how to work with plants and oil-based compounds.

When you smell a rose or a peppermint leaf, what you're actually smelling is the essential oil. There’s nothing added. Nothing synthetic. True essential oils are created by simply extracting the therapeutic, aromatic compounds from the plant.  Most oils are concentrated between 10 to 70 times what you’d find in the normal plant. So, you're getting very, very high levels of the therapeutic healing compounds when you use essential oils.

In my opinion, essential oils work better than MOST modern medicines available today.
Because the compounds are so small they can actually pass into the cell wall, which allows them to help destroy viruses, pathogenic bacteria, parasites and other diseases that get into your body. This is one reason why essential oils are so effective. It's also why I've used them and recommended them to my patients for years.

Essential oils work because they contain high amounts of therapeutic compounds.
A 15 ml bottle (which is about the size of your thumb) of lavender essential oil, takes about 150 pounds of lavender flowers. Think about holding up a 150-pound plate in order to produce an oil weighing less than a pound. That's how many flowers or plants it takes to produce one single bottle of essential oil.

Essential oils are used everyday as natural medicine to treat a number of chronic illnesses, but they can also be used for everyday items.  Essential oils can be used for beauty, reducing aging marks (like sun spots or stretch marks on the skin), weight loss, and everyday things like cleaning your house, killing mold in your house, and allergies. Simply put–essential oils are gentle on the body and they’re the most effective form of plant-based medicine.

Here are my favorite oils that you should keep on hand, all the time...The 6 Best Essential Oils to Keep Stocked in Your Medicine Cabinet!

1. Lavender essential oil
Lavender oil is all things calming to the body. It's amazing for your mood and for your skin. For mood, it's been shown to relieve anxiety. It's been shown to help you overcome insomnia and improve sleep. My wife and I have a diffuser by our bed and we diffuse it in the air before bed or we just rub it on our necks, but it's great for winding down before sleep and to use on your skin.  Lavender oil is one of my favorites, one that I use pretty much every single day.

2. Lemon oil
Lemon oil is everything clean and fresh. Also, lemon oil is a natural detoxifier. It's been shown to detoxify the gall bladder and the liver and the lymphatic system. So, adding just a few drops of lemon oil to your water is great for naturally fighting any sort of immune-related issue and great for detoxification.

3. Peppermint oil
There are over 1,000 medical studies just on peppermint oil alone! One of the studies is how peppermint oil can be effective on the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease or IBS.

Those with diarrhea, constipation, any sort of bowel issue or leaky gut, peppermint oil is a great essential oil to use. There are so many more uses, but overall this is an incredible essential oil that you can use on a regular basis.

4. Melaleuca
Also known as tea tree oil. This is the number one oil for acne. Just mix some raw honey and melaleuca together to make a natural face wash. Also, it's great for the scalp. You can mix it with shampoo and conditioner. I've made a natural deodorant with melaleuca oil because it's antimicrobial.

5. Oil of oregano
It's a powerful natural immune support. If you come down with a cold, you can simply mix this with coconut oil and rub it on the bottom of the feet and it's very effective that in kicking a cold that way.

6. Frankincense
This is my number one essential oil. It's an essential oil I use every single day and it's the most referenced essential oil in the Bible and throughout history. Frankincense contains a compound called boswellia, which is anti-inflammatory. So, if you have inflammation anywhere, especially in the brain, frankincense is the most powerful thing you could ever use.

I use frankincense oil everyday for anti-aging. I believe it’s the most powerful essential oil in the entire world today, and there are many, many more benefits of frankincense oil.  Article written by Dr. Axe and brought to you by Cancer Health Coach, Lynn Thier, Avid pure essential oils user.  To learn more about pure essential oils and find out which one's I use, Email me!

Is Fruit Good for You?

7/2/2015

Picture
There’s compelling evidence supporting the notion that high-fructose diets are responsible for many chronic diseases and conditions, including insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Fruits contain fructose, which is why some caution is warranted with their consumption.

That being said, in vegetables and fruits, the fructose is mixed in with fiber, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and beneficial phytonutrients, all of which help moderate the negative metabolic effects. If you are healthy, eating small amounts of whole fruits is fine and potentially beneficial.

However, if you suffer with any fructose-related health issues, such as insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, obesity, or cancer, you would be wise to limit your total fructose consumption to 15 grams of fructose per day. This includes fructose from ALL sources, including whole fruit.

If you are not insulin resistant, you may increase this to 25 grams of total fructose per day on average. Let me restate my recommendations on fruit and fructose consumption as simply as possible:

  1. If you're insulin or leptin resistant (are overweight, diabetic, hypertensive, or have high cholesterol), then it would be advisable for you to limit your fruit intake. As a general rule, I recommend limiting your fructose intake to a maximum of 15 grams of fructose per day from ALL sources, including whole fruit.
  2. If you are not insulin/leptin resistant, (are normal weight without diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol) and regularly engage in strenuous physical activity or manual labor, then higher fructose intake is unlikely to cause any health problems. In this case, you can probably eat more fruit without giving it much thought.
  3. However, if you are in category two above, you might benefit from a further refinement. Fruit will still increase your blood sugar and many experts believe this will increase your protein glycosylation. So my approach is to consume the fruit typically after a workout as your body will use the sugar as fuel rather than raise your blood sugar.
  4. Additionally, if you're an endurance athlete, you can probably get away with eating fairly large amounts of fruits, since your body will use most of the glucose during exercise, so it won't be stored as fat.
  5. If you're still unsure of just how stringent you need to be, get your uric acid levels checked and use that as a guide. See below for details…

Measuring Your Uric Acid Level Can Help Determine How Much Fruit Is Right for You
The higher your uric acid, the more sensitive you are to the effects of fructose. The safest range of uric acid appears to be between 3 and 5.5 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl), and there appears to be a steady relationship between uric acid levels and blood pressure and cardiovascular risk, even down to the range of 3 to 4 mg/dl.

According to Dr. Richard Johnson, the ideal uric acid level is probably around 4 mg/dl for men and 3.5 mg/dl for women. If you are one of those who believes fruit is healthy no matter how much you eat, I would strongly encourage you to have your uric acid level checked to find out how sensitive you are to fructose. Eat the amount of fruit you feel is right for you for a few weeks and then check your uric acid level and see if your levels are healthy.

If they are elevated, you might try reducing the fruit to recommended levels and rechecking your uric acid level. Many who are overweight likely have uric acid levels well above 5.5. Some may even be closer to 10 or above. Measuring your uric acid levels is a very practical way to determine just how strict you need to be when it comes to your fructose – and fruit -- consumption

Blueberries boost longevity, blueberries & Cancer

6/16/2015

Picture
When scientists began investigating blueberries, they first discovered the fruit’s impact on reducing the age-accelerating effects of oxidative stress on tissues.8-11 Blueberries are unique among fruits with their ability to not only quench destructive oxygen free radicals, but also to directly modulate genes that impart cells with their own protective mechanisms. Those genes produce enzymes such as superoxide dismutase andcatalase that endow cells with the ability to capture and detoxify free radicals, producing harmless water molecules instead.

Blueberry constituents do much more than fight oxidation. Studies are now revealing the powerful ability of blueberry polyphenols to modulate genes associated with aging itself, such as the Methuselah gene, which can promote an extension of up to 35% in the life span of fruit flies, a commonly studied organism in aging science.

Studies in no fewer than three different species illustrate the value of blueberries in decelerating the aging process to produce significantly longer life spans.

The simplest multicellular organism used in aging research is the roundworm Caenorhabditis elegans, a minute worm measuring about 1.3 mm long, which is one of the most versatile animal models of aging.

Studies reveal that treating C. elegans worms with blueberry polyphenols increased the animals’ mean life span by 28%.3 In human terms, that’s the equivalent of adding more than 22 years to the life of a 79-year-old person (the mean life expectancy of a male child born today).

C. elegans worms are extremely sensitive to temperature variations, and blueberry treatment increased the animals’ survival during acute heat stress.3 Treated worms also were much better able than non treated animals to resist induced aging stresses.

Indeed, blueberry treatments can prolong the life of the classic laboratory organism, the insect Drosophila melanogaster, better known as the fruit fly. Flies fed on blueberry extracts lived on average 10% longer than did control animals. This increase was accompanied by an increase of multiple beneficial genes, including protective enzymes and reduction of age-shortening genes. These healthy effects were apparent when flies were treated with an herbicide called paraquat, which normally imposes fatal age-accelerating changes in the flies’ metabolisms.
Blueberries Boost Longevity
  • Blueberries and blueberry extracts have been proven to augment memory and cognitive abilities, but new research shows their effectiveness at decelerating the aging process in many organs.
  • Studies in at least three animal species, including mammals, demonstrate compelling increases in longevity following blueberry supplementation.
  • Cardiovascular diseases arise from many different factors; blueberry supplementation directly counteracts many of the most dangerous factors, including lipid disturbances, blood vessel stiffness, and vulnerability to infarction, thereby reducing the size and impact of tissue damage related to atherosclerosis.
  • Metabolic syndrome, a collection of the consequences of modern lifestyles, threatens millions of lives each year through insulin resistance, high blood sugar, lipid anomalies, and hypertension. Blueberry constituents directly oppose each of metabolic syndrome’s components.
  • Laboratory studies show that blueberry supplementation prevents or mitigates virtually each step in cancer development, from DNA damage to invasion of distant organs through metastasis.
  • If you are seeking supplements to augment your body’s own natural defenses, to raise your disease resistance, and prolong your health span, give strong consideration to starting a blueberry extract supplement.

Boosting Natural Killer Immune Cells
The actions of many immune system components decline with advancing age, in a degenerative process calledimmunosenescence. Controlling and slowing immune senescence is an attractive means of prolonging life and health. Blueberry extracts have been shown to have powerful anti-aging impacts on both cellular and molecular components of the aging immune system.

At the cellular level, blueberry extracts boosted the actions of natural killer (NK) cells charged with identifying and destroying abnormal cells such as those infected by viruses and those showing malignant changes.

At the molecular level, blueberry anthocyanins sharply decreased activation of nuclear factor kappa-beta (NFk-b), an inflammation-generating molecule associated with cancer,47 heart disease,48 and other manifestations of chronic inflammation.

Blueberries And Cancer Prevention
With their powerful anti-inflammatory and gene regulatory properties, blueberries seem an ideal agent for preventing cancer. Human studies in cancer prevention are enormously difficult and time-consuming, but there is ample pre clinical data available to support an important role for blueberries in the prevention of malignancies.

In addition to their unequalled content of bioactive anthocyanins and other polyphenols, blueberries are the single best source for pterostilbene, a close relative of resveratrol, which is also found in grape skins and other dark fruits.

Pterostilbene, a compound found in blueberries has been called a “hallmark” anticancer agent, based on its ability to fight malignant change in several tissues, while producing negligible toxicity.

Along with pterostilbene, the anthocyanins in blueberries exert a spectrum of effects all of which reduce the risk that a cell will become cancerous, and that an incipient cancer will grow, invade tissue, and metastasize to other body sites.82Documented effects of blueberry bioactive molecules include:

  • Prevention of DNA damage,
  • Arrest or alteration of the cell proliferation cycle to reduce the growth rate of cancerous cells
  • Induction of the normal “programmed cell death” routine that is abnormal from malignant cells, allowing them to proliferate infinitely,
  • Prevention of tissue invasion and inhibition of metastasis by down-regulating “protein-melting” enzymes used by cancer cells to invade.

New research shows that current Canadian vitamin D intake recommendations are too low and that a statistical error was made in the calculation of the daily intake levels of vitamin D by Health Canada and the Institute Of Medicine[1]. Canadians are at risk because of this error.  To take action and ask Health Canada to correct the vitamin D mistake, visit http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/petition-for-health-canada-to-re-evaluate-vitamin and sign our petition.

New research also shows that the amount of vitamin D required for a person is based on their body size, it’s not one-size-fits-all. More body weight means you need more vitamin D[2].
Age Range 9-70
Current (At risk)
Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA)- 600-800 IU/d
Upper Level (UL)-4,000 IU/d

Proposed (Optimal)
Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) -6,000 – 9,000* IU/d
Upper Level (UL) -20,000 IU/d

*BMI-dependent, Ranges: Normal 18.5-25, Overweight 25-30, Obese: >30
Overweight and obese need 2-3 times more vitamin D to achieve the same level as normal weight

Vitamin D plays an important role in overall health. Vitamin D is used by nearly every cell in the body and has an effect on every system. Since it acts as a protector and regulator, it enhances the functioning of our body’s systems to protect against disease. Simply put, optimizing vitamin D levels results in better health.

Other studies have also found that if Canadians optimized their intake of Vitamin D an estimated 37,000 premature deaths could be avoided annually and we could reduce the burden of chronic disease by $14.4 billion per year![3] Over the last 5 years the total lost savings is upwards of $72 billion.

We believe that it is imperative the Health Canada guidelines be revised and that Canada’s current approach to health change from treating disease to optimizing health.  Join us in our request.
